Step two · The instruction you write

Prompt

Six parts of a structured prompt. Short is fine.

  1. Persona

What role or perspective should the AI take?

  2. Request

The exact task. A verb and an object.

  3. Objective

What does done well look like for this response?

  4. Material

Which of your Needs go in this time?

  5. Parameters

    Constraints, boundaries, and requirements.

  6. Template

Format, structure, tone, and length of the output.

Purpose and Objective are different

Purpose lives in Plan: the goal behind the work. Objective is what success looks like for this one response.

Write it, run it, improve it

  1. 1

    Write your six parts.

  2. 2

Run it in any AI tool. Read the result before you change anything.

  3. 3

Change one part of the prompt, run it again, and compare.

Make it reusable

Give your prompt to a colleague and have them run it cold. A prompt that only works for its author is not reusable yet.
